Their first-class seats on the flight from London were actually a double suite that could be curtained off into two single cubicles for privacy. The curtain remained open in an unspoken agreement that neither of them wished to be cut off from the other. Morgan peered over at Jane, lying on her side with arms and legs sprawled everywhere like a possessed octopus. It was how she’d slept last night after she’d tentatively accepted Morgan’s invitation to join her in her bed so they could do exactly what Morgan had said she’d wanted to—just cuddle up together.

For the second time while lying curled against Jane, Morgan had fallen asleep. Only this time, she hadn’t startled awake after a short nap. She’d woken naturally as the sun rose to pour muted light through the curtains, and with Jane sprawled over her like she’d been doing calisthenics in her sleep and had eventually found Morgan a comforting mat to rest upon.

Morgan had lain quietly in the dawn light, enjoying the sensation of the gentle weight of Jane’s limbs, her soft breath blowing warm against the exposed skin of her collarbone. Then Jane’s alarm had blared obnoxiously and jerked her awake. She snatched her limbs from Morgan’s body, rolled over and offered bleary-eyed blushing apologies for her intrusion into Morgan’s sleeping space. She’d rushed into the bathroom before Morgan could assure her that it was fine, that she’d really…well, loved it seemed too strong a descriptor, but she’d definitely enjoyed it.

No. She really had loved it. Having Jane so close that way, sleeping together in an intimate, yet not sexual way, so trusting, had made Morgan feel more settled and comfortable than she’d felt in years. It eased some of the emotional discomfort of the events after the pub. Some of…

Now, Jane’s face was soft with sleep again. The airline blanket had slipped from her shoulders to bunch around her waist, leaving her torso and shoulders uncovered. Morgan saved her monthly birth/death projections report, unbuckled and crossed the few steps to Jane’s side. A passing flight attendant peered expectantly at her, and with a smile and headshake she assured him silently that they were fine.

Carefully, Morgan pulled the blanket up to cover Jane’s shoulders. She had the inexplicable urge to touch her, to slide her fingers down Jane’s cheek and feel the skin she knew would be warm and soft and smooth. Jane stirred and rolled over to face away from her, immediately dislodging Morgan’s careful cover arrangement.

Morgan’s second attempt to cover Jane produced the exact same result as her first attempt. Suppressing a laugh, Morgan gave up, allowing herself a quick final glimpse of Jane before she would return to her side of the suite. A quick final glimpse was a bad idea because watching Jane sleep segued quickly into thinking about sleeping beside Jane last night. Of course, that thought segued into not sleeping beside Jane, but instead indulging in long lovemaking, soft caresses, lazy kisses.

Kisses. Jane’s kisses.

Such a bad idea, she really shouldn’t be thinking about this.
